

ADULT BATTLE OF THE BOOKS OVERVIEW

Adults can form teams of 3-5 people. Limit of 12 teams.

One person from each team should click REGISTER and fill out the registration form from March 1 through April 1.

Battle Books will be available to check out beginning at 10:00am on March 1st.

Competition will be a live trivia-style battle on the Library Mezzanine
-
There is no registration fee. This is a FREE program.

Have fun reading all 5 books or consider splitting them up amongst your team members.

Take notes as you read to help you remember details.

If you have friends who are also competing, talk about the books and quiz each other — it’s a great way to review.

Here are some examples of the types of questions asked in Adult Battle of the Books. These questions were written about books used in previous years. Not all questions will fall into these precise categories.
1. Name of important character or significant nickname of a minor character
Q: Name the Battle character whose sister never writes Rat Kiley back.
2. "In which book" questions
Q: In which book would you find the following quote? “We believe the one who has the power. He is the one who gets to write the story.”
3. Comparison with another book(s) on the list
Q: In Homegoing, Esi swallows her mother’s stone necklace in a desperate attempt to keep the necklace with her. What character from another book carries a pebble in their mouth?
4. Important setting or location
Q: Although Jazz lives on the moon, she is a citizen of what country?
5. Give one out of two or more possibilities
Q: Zora and Natalia brought two important supplies to the orphans. Name one.
6. Short answer – significant title, event or object
Q: What was Elma’s favorite type of plane to ferry during World War II?
7. Quotation directly from the book
Q: To whom is Arthur speaking when he says, “You’ll be fine. Me and you, we can’t just sit around any longer. Well you can. But I have to go”?
8. Definition of unique terms or important words
Q: What word means the particles of dust and broken rock on the surface of the moon?
